Pray The Prayer
I open my Bible.
I read the Word.
I write down verses.
I pray.
I worship.
I make promises to God that this time will be different.
And for a while, it is.
For a week, maybe two,
I feel close to Him.
I feel strong.
I feel like I'm finally becoming the believer I'm supposed to be.
Then slowly,
the fire fades.
The motivation leaves.
The discipline weakens.
The voice of temptation gets louder
than the voice of conviction.
And before I know it,
I'm back where I swore I'd never be again.
Lust.
Cursing.
Drinking.
Vaping.
The very things I begged God to help me overcome.
And every time I fall,
the shame tells me,
"Look at you.
You said you'd change.
You promised God.
And here you are again."
So I bow my head and pray the prayer I've prayed a hundred times before.
"God, I'm sorry."
The same words.
The same struggles.
The same tears.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Sometimes I wonder if Heaven gets tired of hearing my voice ask forgiveness for the same sins.
But then I remember:
Your mercy is new every morning.
Not just for my first mistake.
Not just for my tenth mistake.
But for every mistake.
Even the ones I hate admitting.
Lord, I don't want this life.
I don't want the temporary pleasure that leaves me empty.
I don't want the false comfort.
I don't want the chains.
I don't want the guilt.
I don't want to keep running back to things that are slowly pulling me away from You.
But if I'm honest,
Part of me still chooses them.
That's what hurts the most.
Because I know better.
I know your truth.
I know your promises.
I know your love.
Yet I still stumble.
I still fall.
I still let my flesh win battles I know my spirit wants to fight.
And sometimes I try so hard to become the perfect believer.
The Christian who never struggles.
The Christian who never doubts.
The Christian who never falls.
But perfection was never mine to carry.
If I could be perfect,
I wouldn't need a Savior.
Yet every failure reminds me exactly why I do.
So here I am, Lord.
Not perfect.
Not strong.
Not worthy on my own.
Just a sinner who is tired of being a sinner.
A child trying to find his way back home.
A heart that still loves you even while fighting itself.
And though I fall,
I will get back up.
Though temptation calls,
I will keep resisting.
Though I fail today,
I will seek you tomorrow.
Though I stumble a thousand times,
I will pray a thousand and one.
Because giving up is not an option.
Not while Your grace still reaches me.
Not while Your mercy still covers me.
Not while your arms remain open.
So when lust comes,
Help me look to you.
When anger comes,
help me speak life.
When temptation comes,
help me remember what is eternal.
When weakness comes,
remind me that Your strength is made perfect in weakness.
And if I fall tonight,
help me rise tomorrow.
If I fail tomorrow,
help me seek You the next day.
If I lose a battle,
help me remember the war is not over.
Because my story is not defined by how many times I fall.
It is defined by the God who keeps picking me up.
So I will keep reading.
Keep praying.
Keep fighting.
Keep believing.
Keep trusting.
Not because I am strong enough to save myself—
But because You are faithful enough to never let go of me.
And one day,
the things that once chained me will no longer have power over me.
Until then,
I will keep coming back.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Not because I'm proud of my failures,
But because I know where forgiveness lives.
And His name is Jesus Christ
