Growing Taller
Elementary school is easy, Until your free
That last day when the clock hit 3, I felt my childhood slip free
My fingers stained green from playing in the Grass but,
silly me, good things never last.
I wanna go back in the past tell that little girl she's pretty,
let her know that she needs to enjoy the good times while they last
Tell her to hang on to those friends she has,
because it's only a matter of time before they’re gone.
When all is said and done, the timer is up, The clock struck
False promises and mediocre displays of love
Backstabbers and liars
In an audience of adolescents
But she realized that those fake friends weren’t worth the effort;
The friends who focused so much on themselves that they forgot others exist too,
The friends who gossip behind backs and tell tales and rumors,
The friends who speak down to others, and treat them like dirt.
Actions speak louder than words, but she didn’t realize how much words could hurt
She picked up the phone and sent that text: “goodbye.”
She realized her worth that day
She couldn’t keep allowing others to bring her down
That little girl isn’t so little anymore, that little girl has found her people,
She’s abundant in joy, friends and family accompany her through hard times
That little girl became a lady, a lady who knows her worth, and knows what she deserves
Growing isn’t just about finding the good, it’s about leaving the bad.
